(number and length depends model of kayak being built... measure the middle station mold on plan if unsure) or about 50 bdf rough lumber. Notes on wood: Western cedar is most commonly used for strip planking because of availability in long clear lengths but many types of light weight locally grown woods are also used: i.e. basswood, other types of cedar, white pine - look for a species which weighs 25 to 30 lbs/cubic foot – and use this link posted on Bear Mountain’s web site for technical information about wood properties: The Center for Wood Anatomy Research at www2.fpl.fs.fed.us/TechSheets/techmenu.html.
