What an expereince! We are hooked on Kayaking.

One Sunday morning I had this hairbrain idea to build a wooden kayak. My son has commented before that he would like to buy a kayak. So I called him and told him my idea. We started on Mothers Day 2007. It's maiden voyage was on Sun. Sept. 31, 2007 on a small private lake here in Jacksonville Il. My son got the first paddle, I the second, and my wife the third. It was awesome.

I was unable to buy the red cedar that I wanted so I made it out of catalpa with walnut accenting.Catalpa is native to this part of the country. My research lead me to find the catalpla which is just a little heavier than the cedar. It is very flexible. We laminated the walnut for the stems, cockpit coaming and edge guard.

Two pictures accompaany this e-mail of our Resolute we built from your plans. The plans and book were very easy to understand and follow.

Thanks again for the great experience.
