Our wooden canoe kit is the ideal project (or gift) for someone wanting to try the strip plank/epoxy building technique. The finished model is reality in miniature - a 1:12 scale, woodstrip/epoxy canoe displaying all of the fine features of a full size Bear Mountain Canoe.
For a fraction of the cost of a full size canoe, you can experience the satisfaction of building with the same attention to detail that has made the Bear Mountain Canoe world famous. Once completed, the finished canoe sits on the varnished display stand on your mantel or desk - a tribute to your pride and patience, and perhaps a reminder of the hours you will spend paddling across the sparkling waters.
The kit includes materials to make the mold, planking, decks, stems, gunnels, thwarts, paddles, and display stand, as well as West System epoxy, fiberglass cloth, and a 40 page instruction booklet. Suitable for ages 14 and up, it will take about 35 hours to complete. It is an excellent instructional kit and gift for an avid canoeist or modeler. This model is the most advanced available.
from another satisfied Bear Mountain customer...
"I purchased your canoe building book some years ago, and vowed that some day I would build my poor man's yacht 'The Chestnut Prospector.' This dream was rekindled last December when my wife purchased a Wooden Model Canoe Kit as a Christmas gift. From the first moment the box was opened the kit provided me a great sense of satisfaction. I redeveloped the required patience to successfully complete the challenge of constructing the canoe. Thank you so much for doing what you do so well."
Bear Mountain Half Hull Model Kit
$29.95
Order a model kit
Traditionally half models were carved by boat builders
before a craft was built, showing a view of the hull in three dimensions.
Lifts or layers were then separated
into slices and traced to make a scale drawing of the hull
lines. Even if you have no woodworking experience, you will
find this project easy to complete in about 4 hours.
Clear instructions and accurate parts make the process
simple and the results exceptional. The finished model can
be displayed on the wall - an elegant tribute to a Canadian
icon.
