SPRINT RACING CANOE NEWS
If the number of orders for C15 and C4 canoes is any indication,
Canada's oldest organized sport is growing.....we think that the
masters class has something to do with this - as paddlers from 30
years ago prove that they have still got what it takes!
With reports in the media of sedentary young people glued to
television sets, we salute the hundreds of paddlers and their
families who have chosen to keep fit and have fun being involved in a
local canoe club. Anyone who attends a sprint racing regatta will be
inspired to see talent of the athletes and the enthusiasm of the
coaches and families as they cheer for Canada's future Olympic
paddlers.
This C15 for Abenaki represents many hours of fund raising by members
of this club which is located in Nova Scotia. Currently we are
building new canoes for Carleton Place, Lac Beauport, West Rouge and
Senobe and Otterburn.
Yacht designer, Steve Killing made some changes to the Bear Mountain
C15 two years ago and is currently looking at the C4. Compared to
other sports, the equipment used in sprint paddling has not evolved
much in the last 50 years and while we do not want to make it a
competition of boats rather than paddlers, not only are crew weights
different than they were 50 years ago, the C4 and C15 have always
exhibited some unruly characteristics which we would like to correct.
We are putting some notes together about maintenance of the
wood/epoxy canoes - any club interested in receiving a copy should
contact Bear Mountain.
