Ted (finally) Paddles a Sprint Canoe!
Ted has been building canoes for Canadian sprint racing clubs for
almost 30 years. This year when he was building a C15 for Canada's top
sprint club, the Mississauga Canoe Club, the coaches discovered that
he had never paddled in one. They arranged a special ceremony to
launch their new C15 and invited us to be part of a crew. We thought
it was tricky trying to balance on one knee with one leg extended for
balance while the boat was stationary - but when 14 powerful athletes
dug in and the boat took off - well!!! - we did not fall out of the
boat but it was close. It was a thrilling ride up and down the Credit
River and we acquired a fresh understanding of the skills these young
athletes need to make these boats go fast. Sprint racing is one of the
oldest organized sports in Canada - many of our Olympic paddlers are
first exposed to the sport of competitive canoeing in war canoes. Find
