..NEWS Boats for the family 2006 was the year both our daughters acquired their own Bear Mountain Boats – a canoe for Daisy and her husband Adam and a dory for Jen -the only catch was that they had to build them.
Daisy and Adam took time off in March to build their dream canoe - a
Freedom 17. Since they are both working on their doctorates (she in medicine,
he in biology) it took some determination to find the time. The hull of
the Freedom 17 was built over two weeks in March and we were pleased to
be able to help. Adams family came also to lend a hand. The trim was installed
over the summer and Ted sprayed the varnish. Daisy and Adam are keen whitewater
paddlers and trippers so we know this design will serve them well. The
decks were made from a piece of yellow birch we harvested on Bear Mountain
in 1976 before Daisy was born.
