Canoe and Kayak Building Classes
Classes in 2006 in Peterborough
Bear Mountain Classes were held in August and October. Thank you to all
the students who came to join us – we hope you had as much fun as we did.
It is a pleasure for Ted to work so many talented and interesting people
and I enjoy having company for lunch. This year we were fortunate to have
the assistance of Denis Gagne from Lakefield during the classes. Denis
has built two kayaks and is an active participant on our builders forum.

In October we staged our first One Day workshop which touched on all the
major steps in strip canoe construction. Ted and Ron Frenette of Canadian
Canoes delivered a lot of knowledge in a very short time frame. It was
an extremely busy day as we wanted to make sure each student had some
hands on experience which included working with epoxy. We learned that
there is as much preparation involved in doing a one day workshop as there
is in a seven day class. There are many advantages in learning the tips
and tricks that will smooth the building process and help to guarantee
great results – but it may not be feasible to impart it in one day….perhaps
a workshop concentrating on one or two aspects would be more realistic,
although we have not scheduled another one day workshop in 2007. You can
contact us if you are interested.
