How to plot Full size Mold Stations from the offset Table.

The offset tables provide the information required to plot full size mold stations. Dimensions given are in feet-inches-eighths and a plus (+) sign indicates and additional sixteenth. For example 1-03-7+ would indicate one foot, three inches, seven eighths and a sixteenth, for a total of 15 and 15/16 inches. For those who wish to skip this part of the process, full size drawings are available from Bear Mountain Boat Shop at www.bearmountainboats.com

Table of half breadths
To plot the offsets a grid is laid out with waterlines spaced every two inches for the half breadths, and buttock lines spaced at two inch intervals for the heights. The two views are separated here to illustrate the difference, but would actually be drawn with the same centerline and baseline.

Table of Heights
These offsets are plotted on the buttock lines and are measured down from the baseline. The same baseline is used for hull and deck offsets.

Drawing curves
The final mold station lines should look like this. A fair curve should pass within 1/32" of each plotted point. The resulting drawn station already has an allowance for the 1/4" strips and therefore is the true shape to be cut for the station mold.

Stem Molds
Stem mold offsets are measured forward from a designated station. They are to the forward edge of the inside stem. If you are using the recommended inside stem thickness for kayaks of 1", then draw a line 1" back from the plotted line to produce the true mold stem shape. Canoes normally have a 3/4" inside stem.
