Cracked Thwart

After 47 years and numerous trips, the thwart on a canoe we built for Mike Ross cracked when Mike was on a trip. He managed to repair it with a splint.

From the pictures It appears that there was a knot in the wood. After looking at the pictures Mike sent Ted thought it would be best to replace rather than repair. Ted was surprised that he would have used wood with a knot in it - after all these years building canoes his standards have improved!

Mike helped us build our stone workshop on Bear Mountain in exchange for Bear Mountain Canoe #4.
